Recently, five track & field/cross country scholar-athletes received their awards for earning national academic honors on Friday, August 29, 2014. They are Brittany Brown, Taffawee Johnson, John King Jr., Cherrisse Lynch and Fanta Fofana.

Brown and Johnson were selected to the Capital One Division II Academic All-America Second Team and King was a Capital One Division II Academic All-America Third-Team selection. The trio along with Lynch and Fofana were named to the All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Brown, from Akron, Ohio, was one of 31 All-Academic selections to post a 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA). A communications major, Brown graduated from Saint Augustine’s University in May 2014. She was part of the women’s 4×400 meter relay team which finished second at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Fofana is a senior with a 3.79 cumulative GPA. The Amines, France native played important roles on both the 2014 CIAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field and 2013 CIAA Women’s Cross Country Championship squads. She made the indoor All-Region team in the 800 meter run.

Johnson is a senior with a 3.64 cumulative GPA in sport management. The St. Ann, Jamaica native helped Saint Augustine’s University win the 2014 NCAA Men’s Outdoor title. He was a member of the winning men’s 4×100 meter relay team and placed third in the 100 meter dash.

King is a senior with a 3.79 cumulative GPA in business administration. A native of Upper Darby, Pa., he competed in the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400 meter hurdles. King, along with Johnson, helped the Falcons win the 2014 CIAA Men’s Outdoor Crown. He is a member of the 2013 and 2012 CIAA Men’s Cross Country Championship Team.

Lynch is a senior with a 3.83 cumulative GPA. A biology major, Lynch ran with Brown on the women’s 4×400 meter relay team which placed second at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The St. Lawrence, Barbados native was a key runner on the women’s cross country team which won the 2013 CIAA Championship.
