Track and Field Teams keep Winning

Saint Augustine’s University opened the indoor track and field season by winning three events in the JDL College Kick Off Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. on December 5.

Saint Augustine’s University finished first and second in two of the three events it won. In the women’s long jump, Shakinah Brooks (Jr./Raleigh, NC) placed first with a leap of 18-10 followed by Amenze Uhunmwangho (So./Ebo, Nigeria) with a jump of 18-5¾. In the men’s 500 meter run, Khari Herbert, Jr. (Jr./Coral Springs, FL) finished first in 1:04.39 and Omar Johnson (Sr./St. Ann, Jamaica) was second in 1:04.62. In the men’s 800 meter run, Immanuel Hutchinson (Sr./San Jacinto, CA) crossed the finish line first in 1:53.04.

Several other Falcons and Lady Falcons fared well at the meet. Tia-Adana Belle (Jr./St. George, Barbados) placed second in the women’s 400 meter dash in 57.41 seconds and sixth in the women’s 60 meter hurdles in 8.77 seconds. The women’s 4×400 meter relay squad of Ade Hunter (So./Philadelphia, PA), Leah Barker (So./St. Michaels, Barbados), Mylene Cannon (Jr./Dallas, TX) and Belle placed third in 3:58.47.

Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Sr./Raleigh, NC) was fifth in the men’s 60 meter dash in 6.89 seconds and fifth in the men’s 300 meter dash in 35.61 seconds. Uhunmwangho finished fifth in the women’s triple jump in 37-1¾ and Shamia Lassiter (Sr./Chesapeake, VA) placed fifth in the women’s 60 meter hurdles in 8.63 seconds. Lassiter was also ninth in the women’s long jump with a leap of 17-0¾.

Brett Arceneaux (Jr./Snellville, GA) was sixth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 22-5. Cannon placed seventh in the women’s 400 meter dash in 59.90 seconds and Daniel Jamieson (Sr./Windsor, CT) was seventh in the men’s 60 meter dash in 6.92 seconds. He was also 10th in the men’s 300 meter dash in 36.37 seconds.

Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) was seventh in the women’s 60 meter hurdles in 8.95 seconds. Ornella Livingston (Sr./Christiana, Jamaica) placed eighth in the women’s 300 meter dash in 41.18 seconds and ninth in the women’s 60 meter dash in 7.77 seconds.

The Falcons and Lady Falcons will compete again at the Virginia Tech Invitational, which will be held Jan. 15-16, 2016, in Blacksburg, Va.
