NC NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIP

Who is eligible?

  • Be a North Carolina resident as well as a North Carolina resident student for tuition purposes, as defined by North Carolina Residency Manual
  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student in at least 9 credit hours at a qualifying private North Carolina campus
  • Demonstrate a certain level of financial need based on calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Meet requirements for the Federal Pell Grant (except the EFC range used for Federal Pell Grant awards)
  • Complete the Residency Determination online application

How do I apply?

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form must be submitted with at least one qualified private institution in North Carolina listed.

How much money can I get?

  • Depending on your financial need, the time you apply, the amount of additional help you get, and the availability of money at your institution, you might receive up to $8,800-year, amount varies each academic year.

GOLDEN LEAF FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Golden LEAF Foundation awards scholarships to North Carolina students from rural tobacco-dependent counties who attend participating colleges and universities in our state and have financial need.  The scholarship is funded by the Golden LEAF Foundation through a grant to the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority.

Who is eligible?

  • Be a North Carolina resident as well as a North Carolina resident student for tuition purposes, as defined by North Carolina Residency Manual
  • First-year students who plan to attend any of the participating North Carolina colleges and universities, who reside in a qualifying county.
  • Demonstrate a certain level of financial need based on calculated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

How do I apply?

  • Visit cfnc.org and fill out the application form or call 866-866-CFNC for assistance. The deadline to apply if March 1st.

How much money can I get?

  • The scholarship provides $3,500 a year for up to four years to high school seniors and $3,500 a year for up college transfer students.
